SVLGA (Midland Division) Championship
The Final of the Midland Vets Ladies Championship between Elaine Moffat ( St Regulus) and Aileen Baker (Crail) was held today in glorious sunshine, with the course being in a wonderful condition, to test both players. Both losing Semi-finalists, Lorna McKinlay and Linda McDonald provided their caddying services in the afternoon, which was greatly welcomed.
The standard of play in the Quarter-finals yesterday and the Semi-finals this morning proved to be of a very good standard and this was only to built on in the final. The supporters following the game were treated to an exhibition of some wonderful golf from both players, especially approach shots to the green and challenging putts to either win or half the holes.
Congratulations goes to Elaine Moffat, who won the match 2/1. The presentation of the Lady McInnes Shaw Cup was made in the Clubhouse, in the presence of the supporters, the Balbirnie Club Captain and Catering Manager, who catered for all our needs over the past 2 days. Elaine Moffat will now represent the Midland Division at SVLGA Championship at Blairgowrie in September.
A special mention must be made to George Allan, Club Captain, who followed the final throughout, and during our Summer Meeting yesterday ensured the greens were playable following the heavy downpours at lunchtime. The warm welcome we received at Balbirnie Golf Club was second to none ,which made the whole event a very enjoyable experience and a venue I would recommend visiting again.
Following a good morning of sunshine, heavy rain appeared around lunchtime. However, as the Quarter-Finals commenced the sun re-appeared to provide positive conditions for all 4 matches. The Semi-finals and Final will be played tomorrow, 21st June, commencing at 9.30 and 9.40, with the Final at 2.00pm.
I would like to thank all members for playing in the Summer Meeting and in the Championship.
The full results of the Summer Meeting and outcome of the Championship will be announced on Wednesday 21st June.
