ENGLAND WIN THE SENIOR WOMEN'S HOME INTERNATIONALS

England are the Senior Women's Home Internationals title winners for the 10th time since the tournament started in 2003. They completed a 100 per cent winning week at Alyth, by beating Wales 5.5-2.5 to win the Sue Johnson Trophy for the third year in a row.
Ireland, Scotland and Wales finished with 1pt apiece. After a long involved three-stage countback, European champions Ireland were declared the runners-up with Wales third and Scotland last of four, which means Scotland "won" the Wooden Spoon. Oh well, there's always next year....

MIDLAND VETS CHAMPIONSHIP

Fife based players took all 4 places in this morning semi-finals of the 2016 Championship played at Crieff in ever changing weather.  The morning started in glorious sunshine which last for about 9 holes before intermittent showers arrived.  Emma Wilson, Elie and Earlsferry Ladies and 2002 Champion, had a close game with Aileen Baker, Crail which resulted in a win for Emma at 17th.  In the second semi Lorna McKinley’s, Dunnikier Park, excellent putting proved too strong for Lorna Bennett, Ladybank, and won by 5&4.
The final had to contend with increasingly heavy showers of rain and an easterly wind and Lorna got off to a flying start by winning the first 3 holes.  Emma battled on didn’t quite manage to take the opportunities to pull back Lorna’s lead.  The result was a 7 and 5 win for Lorna.
Having entered the Vets last year, Lorna has had great success in being selected to play for Scottish Vets and Scotland’s senior team as well as reaching last year’s Midland Vets final, but has gone one step further in winning the Championship title this year and will go forward to represent Midlands in the Scottish Vets Championships at Blairgowrie in September.

MIDLAND V WEST VETS 07/06/2016

Captain Shelagh Quinn with the Midlands Team
Midland Vets played against the Wet Vets at Kilmacolm today with an expanded team of 10 players: 3 of handicaps less than 10 and 7 of 10 and over. Midland have won against both North and East this year but were unable to complete a clean sweep.  The result was a home win for the West by 6 games to 4.  Despite forecasts of heavy thunderstorms, the sun shone all day although it was very humid at times.  Kilmacolm is not a course well known to many of the team and a few tricky holes got the better of our players however some of the golf was outstandingly good.

We had a few new faces playing for the team today and I think they are all looking forward to their next match.  Today's players were:  Shona Leighton, Moira Lumby, Kathleen Duncan, Emma Wilson, Winifred McCallum, Mary Hope, Lizee McGraw, Brenda Clough, Moira Begbie, and Liz Fertacz. The golf was very sociable and much enjoyed by all and we were well entertained by the West Vets.
