MIDLAND VETS AGM AND PRIZE GIVING

The Midland Vets members gathered today at Blairgowrie Golf Club for their AGM and Prize Giving. Everyone was welcomed by Captain Winifred McCallum who then gave a report on the year's activities. This was followed by Sandy Bushby and Liz Jones who gave their reports. Liz Fertacz, the new Captain, thanked Winifred for all she had done and then announced that Bev Brown from St Rule was to be her Vice Captain. Jane Beaton stepped down from her three years on the committee and Liz Milligan of Dunblane New was proposed as a new committee member.

After the formal part of the meeting, the prize giving took place and the vote of thanks was then given by Linda Dyball, the reigning Midland Vets Champion. Finally everyone was able to enjoy their glass of wine and tasty buffet.

SCOTTISH VETS CHAMPIONSHIP BLAIRGOWRIE

The inter-divisional playoff to decide the Scottish Vets Matchplay Champion for 2013 took place on Sunday 22 and Monday 23 September at Blairgowrie. Linda Dyball, the Midland Vets Champion first met Fiona Hunter of Galloway in the quarter finals whom she went on to beat. She then met  Alison Bartlett from Highland on Monday in the semi finals but unfortunately lost by just one hole. Alison then went on to beat Alex Glennie from West 5 and 4 to become The Scottish Vets Matchplay Champion. Well done to all the ladies who took part.

MORE SUCCESS FOR MIDLAND DIVISION AT BLAIRGOWRIE


THE SCOTTISH VETERANS’ GREENSOMES 


Today the SVLGA Stroke Play Greensomes Competition was played on the Lansdowne Course at Blairgowrie. Midland Members Margaret Hunter and Sandy Bushby came second in the Beddows Quaich. They scored a nett 73.2.

MIDLAND DIVISION DOES WELL AT BLAIRGOWRIE


Midland member Cathy Irving shot a gross 80-nett 68 on the Rosemount Course today in the annual SVLGA Golf Event at Blairgowrie.  She won the Patrick Rose Bowl,  which is awarded to the competitor returning the lowest nett score. She also won the Lyon Picture which is awarded to the competitor returning the lowest gross score. And to top it all off, she won the Allan Plate, which is awarded to the competitor returning the lowest gross score by a player of a certain senior age. 

Cathy's score along with Liz Fertacz and Sheila Durward's scores meant that the Midland Division won the Lyon Trophy, which is awarded to the Divisional Team returning the lowest aggregate of three nett scores. Well done ladies.

STABLEFORD GREENSOMES RESULTS


74 ladies played the Stableford Greensomes competition at St Michaels near Leuchars. The weather was kind to us as threatening thunderstorms passed us by.  Well done to our winners Diane and Sheila who scored an excellent 43 points.

2nd Shelagh Quinn, Stirling and Rose Graham, Stirling – 40 points

A pink Cutter and Buck slipover was left behind at St Michaels. It is being looked after by Vice Captain Liz Fertacz.

SCOTTISH SENIOR STROKEPLAY AND MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Midland member Heather Anderson just missed out on  the Scottish Senior Ladies Stroke Play Championship  at West Linton on Wednesday by one stroke to Anna Telfer of Milngavie. Heather shot 78 in both rounds. Nine Midland members managed to qualify for the Scratch and Nett Matchplay Championships. For the Scratch were: Heather Anderson (Defending Champion), Elaine Allison, Kathleen Webster, Fiona de Vries, Margaret Tough, Lorna Bennett and Karen Burns. Well done to Lorna and Kathleen who both won their first round matches. Sadly only Lorna made it to the semi final which will be played Friday morning. In the Nett Championship, Sandy Bushby and Gillian Wallace qualified. Sandy lost her first round but Gillian managed to make it through to the semi final.

Well done to all Midland members who took part and good luck to Lorna and Gillian.

Update: Sadly both Lorna and Gillian lost their semi finals. Well done for getting that far.

RESULTS OF MIDLAND VETS CHAMPIONSHIP

Today the semi finals and finals of the Midland Vets Championship were played at Blairgowrie Golf Club. The semi finalists were Gillian Wallace & Linda Dyball and Fiona De Vries & Lorna Bennett.  Linda Dyball and Lorna Bennett won their matches and played the final in the afternoon. Linda Dyball eventually triumphed as the Midland Vets Champion. Well done to all who took part in the Championship knockout. Check out the video below to see some more pictures taken on the day.

The Midland Vets Summer Meeting was played in beautiful summer sunshine. The Rosemount Course at Blairgowrie was in excellent condition and proved to be a bit of a challenge for some. Congratulations to Fiona De Vries who won the Donaldson Quaich with the best nett score. Very impressive off of a 2 handicap.

MIDLAND VETS VS WEST VETS MATCH AT DUNBLANE

Captain Winifred McCallum is pleased to report another win for the Midland Vets. Today Midland Vets played their annual match against the West Vets at Dunblane. They were very fortunate with the weather and the team was very pleased to come away with a win of four and a half to two and a half. A lovely time was had by all.  Thanks go to our Midlands team: Sandy Bushby, Sheila Travers, Miriam Wilson, Elma Leisk, Liz Fertacz, Helen Campbell and Joyce Mulgrew.
