2009 AGM

The Midland Vets 2009 AGM was held on Wednesday 28 October at Balbirnie Park Golf Club. Last year's Captain, Anne Hood, handed over the Captain's Brooch to next year's Captain - Emma Wilson. The members of next year's committee are pictured below

Scotland wins Senior Home Internationals

Thursday 1 October - Scotland clinched their first Senior Home International Title by beating Wales today by 5 1/2 to 2 1/2. Midland Vet Fiona de Vries was top scorer for Scotland winning 6 out of 6 matches. For the full report, see Gillian Kirkwood's website

Senior Women's Home Internationals

Wednesday 30 September - Scotland are ahead after the second day of the Senior Home Internationals at Newport Golf Club, Wales. Top scorer is Midland Vet Fiona de Vries with 4 wins from 4. Unfortunately Lorna Bennet, who was selected for the team, had to withdraw for family reasons. The final matches are tomorrow (Thursday) when Scotland plays Wales. SVLGA Blairgowrie - Patrick Rosebowl

The only Midland Vet to feature in the prize-list of the Patrick Rosebowl, the medal round played at Blairgowrie on Monday 21 September, was Margaret Tough (Falkirk) who scored an excellent nett 72 (77-5=72) to gain second place and the Smith Medal. Our congratulations to Margaret, and commiserations on being beaten for the Rosebowl on the better inward half by Alex Glennie of West Vets. For those who played, the CSS was 75

Lorna Wins Scottish Vets Championship

Lorna Bennett is the new Scottish Vets Champion. Lorna beat Moira Thomson from East Vets at the 19th hole.

Today's results (Monday 21 September) from the Scottish Veteran Ladies championship over the Blairgowrie Lansdowne course were:
Moira Thomson (East) bt Lynne Terry (North) 5 and 4.
Lorna Bennett bt Sheila Cuthbertson(Borders) 4 and 3.
Lorna beat Moira Thomson at the 19th

Blairgowrie - SVLGA Championship & Open Meeting

Midland Vet champion Lorna Bennett won through to the Semi-Finals of the Scottish Vets Championship at Blairgowrie today (Sunday) beating Helen Faulds (west) by 4 and 3. The semi-finals and finals will be played on Monday (21st September).Other results.

Lorna is top Scot in Senior Women's British Open

Midland Vet Lorna Bennett achieved a top-10 finish in the Senior Women’s British Open golf championship for the second year in a row at Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club, South Wales today (Thursday 17 September). Lorna's rounds of 83, 82 and 77 for a total of 20-over-par 242 gained her a share of eighth place.

Fiona de Vries finished 2nd Scot and joint 15th with 83, 83 and 81 for 245.

Midland Vets played their Autumn Meeting today (Friday 11th September) in glorious sunshine - such a welcome change from the recent rain! The CSS was 74 (reduction only) despite a marvellous score from Elinor Arkley!

European Senior Ladies’ Team Championship

The European Senior Ladies’ Team Championship is taking place this week at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club in Ireland. Midland Vets Fiona de Vries and Lorna Bennett are part of the Scotland Team which has qualified for the matchplay stages in 5th place and is drawn to play England tomorrow (Wednesday 2 September). Midland Vets played the August Stableford Greensomes at a rather soggy, but not soaking, Tulliallan, today (Tuesday 18 August). Stirling Golf Club members figure rather prominently in the prize list!

Scotland Vets retain Miller Stirling Trophy at Bath

The Scotland Vet team, including Midland Vet players Lorna Bennett and Fiona de Vries, retained the Miller Stirling Trophy at the Veteran Ladies Golf Association Jamboree today (6th August), completing a 100 per cent record through three days of competition at a very wet Bath Golf club course. Scotland beat England South 5 1/2-3 1/2, having already beaten England Midlands 5-3 and England North by 7 1/2 to 1 1/2

Scottish Senior Ladies Team

Having already been selected for the Scottish Vets Team for the Vets Jamboree 2009 to be held at the Bath Golf Club from Tuesday 4 - Thursday 6 August, Midland Vet members Lorna Bennett (Ladybank) and Fiona De Vries (St Rule) have been selected to represent Scotland in the 6 person team to play at the European Senior Ladies Team Championship to be held at Dun Laoghaire GC, Ireland from 1-4 September. Our congratulations to Lorna and Fiona.

Scottish Seniors

Heather Anderson (Alyth) beat Moira Thomson (Gullane Ladies) today (Friday 3rd July) to win the Scottish Senior Ladies Matchplay Championship. In the semi-finals, Anderson beat Alex Glennie (Kilmarnock Barassie) 6 and 4, and Thomson bt Noreen Fenton (Dunbar) 3 and 2.

Scottish Seniors Matchplay Championship

Midland Vet representatives did not progress past the quarter finals today (Thursday 2 July) at Kinross. In the first round, Fiona de Vries (St Rule) was beaten by Helen Faulds (Douglas Park) 6 & 4, and Lorna Bennett(Ladybank) beat Margaret Tough(Falkirk) 3 & 2. In the quarter finals, Moira Thomson (Gullane Ladies) beat Lorna at the 20th hole.

The semi finalists are Heather Anderson (Alyth) vs Alex Glennie (Kilmarnock Barassie) and Noreen Fenton(Dunbar) v Moira Thomson.

Scottish Seniors Championship at Kinross

The Scottish Senior Ladies' Strokeplay Championship was won today (Wednesday 1 July) by Fiona Hunter of Baberton with scores of 73 and 80 =153
Midland Vet Champion, and last year's Senior Ladies' Champion, Lorna Bennett was 2nd = with a score of 154 (80,74), Fiona de Vries was 5th with 157 (81,76) and Margaret Tough was 15th qualifier with 163 ( 81 82).

The Matchplay Championship begins tomorrow (Thursday). Fiona de Vries will play Helen Faulds (Douglas Park) (12th qualifier) and Lorna will play Margaret. The quarter finals will be played on Thursday afternoon.

Midland Vets Championship - Lorna Bennett wins

The semi finals and final were played in warm sunny but breezy conditions, over a sun-baked Leven Course.

The Final was closely contested between Lorna and Fiona, the Holder.
Scoring was good and steady, the match being all square at the turn.
Lorna then won 10, 11 and 12 to go 3 up. Although Fiona won
the 14th, Lorna won 15 and 16 to win by 4/2.

Lorna now goes on to represent the Midland Division in the SVLGA
Championship at Blairgowrie in September.

Midland Vets match vs West Vets at Dunblane New

Midland Vets hosted their annual match against the West Vets
at Dunblane New Golf Club on 8th June. The match was played
in lovely conditions, with some very close games, resulting in
a draw. Therefore the Midland Vets retained the Mid West Trophy.
