We are very sad to announce that Midland Vets' member Kate McAlpine died on the 25th of January . She had been ill for about six or seven months.

I have had a few queries from Members about using Paypal.

When someone pays for their Subscription or a  Meeting with Paypal, I receive a  "Response" entry on my  Paypal Spreadsheet....that tells me that you have filled in the form for the Event you want to pay for. Once the Payment goes through, I then receive a confirmation email from Paypal to say the Payment has been made, and the Treasurer, Meriel Walker, gets the same email.
You should receive an email from Paypal headed Your payment to SVLGA (Midland Division), and it will detail how much you have paid and for what Event.

When filling in the on-line entry/subscription you have to make sure you press the blue SUBMIT button at the foot of the form you fill in, then press the "CLICK HERE TO PAY" button at the bottom of the page. You should then be  directed to the payment page.
When you check out your "Cart", they ask you if you want to pay with your Paypal account or as a guest.  Some ladies press the Paypal account, but they don't have a personal Paypal account, so payment doesn't go through,  you have to press the "guest" check-out, where you can use your own  credit/debit card.

Remember, if you receive a confirmation email from Paypal, you have paid - if you haven't received an email  please try again. Any problems, let us  know....if you end up paying twice, we'll refund the extra payment.

Happy New Year to you all - and we do hope thoughts of the new golf season are already entering your minds.  The 2017 Fixture Lists will be sent out in the next couple of weeks, so if anyone has decided not to join the Vets this year, we would appreciate knowing as soon as possible.  You can email, write or phone the Secretary, or advise any member of the Committee.  Thanks!

We have received the following request from  Alison Houston, Secretary of the SVLGA.

Scottish Golf is looking to recruit new course rating volunteers, and already have had a lot of folk signing up.  Some volunteers are still required in a few areas where uptake has been slower (namely Angus, Ayrshire, The Borders and Lanarkshire). The aim is to ensure that lady course raters are being recruited as well as gents so that the best interests of women's golf are served in the course rating process.

Perhaps you could let members of your Division know of this volunteering opportunity?

If anyone is interested in volunteering for this interesting work, the first step would be to contact Adam Phillips, Golf Administrator at Scottish Golf
(contact details - Tel:  0131 339 3987, e mail:  a.phillips@scottishgolf.org)

The next step would be to attend an Introductory seminar during March or April - these will be held at various locations throughout Scotland as below.

  • Murrayshall Golf Club – Tuesday 21st March, 2017
  • Haggs Castle Golf Club – Thursday 23rd March, 2017
  • Peebles Golf Club – Tuesday 28th March, 2017
  • Ratho Park Golf Club – Thursday 30th March, 2017
  • Elgin Golf Club – Tuesday 4th April, 2017

With all best wishes for 2017.

Alison Houston
